SOUNDWARE: Soundfont Library

My soundfont library is a comprehensive range of sounds for instruments that can read .sf2 soundfont files. Most of these sounds tend to be of an 'essential' variety, and together they make up a collection of sounds ideal for songwriters and composers.

I've arranged them by instrument type. To use them, just download the .SF2 files. You don't need the 'source' samples. The .SF2 file standard 'wraps' the samples into the file alongside information as to how the samples are mapped across the keyboard as well as other parameters. Use the .sf2 soundfont file to load the sounds into your instrument. Some instrument use a 'load' function menu or button, others allow you to 'drag' them into the instrument.

Instruments that can read .sf2 files include BitWig's Sampler, Reason's NN-XT sampler, and Steinberg's HALion. The Presence instrument from Presonus' Studio One software seems to load some but not others. It's a little unreliable.

Don't be fooled...... the 'Soundfont' file type is a great way to distribute sample libraries and patches. As far as I'm aware there are no limitations to the size or number of samples a soundfont may contain. I've heard people talk about the soundfont standard as though it was somehow an 'inferior' way of distributing samples. It isn't!

You can check out my Soundfont Page for more info on soundfonts including a bit of history, more soundfont resources, and a list of the instruments that can load/use them.
